Buzzweld U.P. Underbody preservation is a borosilicate glass re-enforced underbody clear lacquer with exceptional anti-corrosive properties..

See our FAQ at the bottom to help you choose how much / which UP products you require.

UP Underbody Preservation Chassis Care Ceramic

U.P. is specifically formulated to be applied to a wet surface that has had minimal preparation.  U.P. will offer short to medium term protection above that of oils, and other waxes at low preparation levels.

Benefits include

  1. Clear- U.P. does not hide existing issues. you can spot problems as they occur and maintain accordingly.
  2. LOW reactivity. U.P. is compatible with most existing paints and treatments making it ideal as a Patina Preserver, and a topup protection system.
  3. EXTREME creep from absorbtion, as well as capilary action.
  4. U.P. flows in between spot welds, and absorbs into corrosion forcing out the residual moisture and air, suffocating the ability for corrosion to continue.
  5. COST EFFECTIVE. U.P. 1000ML Schultz tin will treat up to a larger 4x4
  6. TIME effective. a U.P. underbody treatment can be completed in as little as 2 hours.
  7. FAST CURE. U.P. can be touch dry in as little as 30 minutes.
  8. High temperature tolerance. Survives on the exhaust system up to but not including the downpipe.
  9. Forces out moisture from wiring looms, and electrical connectors.
  10. Presents an easy to clean, hydrophobic surface.
  11. Vehicle underbody stays dryer for longer, and holds less water in adverse conditions.
  12. does not wash off or evaporate
  13. TOUGH- Difficult to remove even with a 155C steam cleaner
  14. Dries properley, does not wash away, or attract dirt/ debris
  15. Makes maintenance work ALOT easier- cleaner, drier, less rust.
  16. EASY to weld, or prepare an area that has been treated.

We estimate the lifespan of U.P. conservatively to be between 12 and 36 months to first maintenance. This is based on the level of prep you do, and more importantly the existing condition.

Minimum prep requirements for U.P. is to wash down the vehicle underbody, and apply. You can apply U.P. whilst the vehicle is still wet.

Recommendations to improve U.P. longevity.

  1. clean. the cleaner the underbody the better.
  2. wet. we recommend you use an air blow gun, or take the vehicle for a short drive prior to application where possible to remove excessive amounts of trapped water.
  3. steam cleaner. very effective at removing existng loose paint, and contamination. the more U.P. that is in contact with the vehicle, and not over existing oils, dirt, flakey paint etc, the better it will protect your vehicle.
  4. On poorly sealed vehicles we recommend you air the vehicle interior to remove solvents during the curing process. Modern vehicles will not typically require this.

Contents: -

1x 1L Schultz Tin. Can be applied by brush, spraying is recommended.

Aerosol version still in testing.

We recommend the FX11 Schultz gun for U.P. as it atomises better, and has much better access than a standard schultz gun. Also works with PCL, and IM gun. IM Gun offers the most control and access.

Thinning

Product Types
1000ml Paint Tin
Normal paint tin for brush / roller / thinning and spraying

1000ML Schutz Undercoating Tin
Stubby Schutz Tin. These tins work with our FX10 Spraygun & FX11 Spraygun. The gun screws directly on. To use a normal Schutz gun with a stubby schutz tin, you need to trim the pickup tube 75mm shorter.

5000ml Paint Tin
Normal paint tin for brush / roller / thinning and spraying

400ML Aerosol (traditional)
Traditional aerosol.

400ML Buzzweld Powercan
The Aerosol powercan uses NO THINNER. as a result the can outputs the same amount of paint as a spraygun. This means less coats, a much higher film build and time saved. HOWEVER- the cans empty themselves very quickly. Protection VS coverage. When using a powercan you need to spray from further away. This can can also be used as a textured bedliner spray (comes with two nozzles).

WHAT UP PRODUCT DO I NEED?

I want to treat a normal car with only aerosols
I would recommend 2 black UP Aerosols. these will coat the arches and maek them look nicer. alternatively, order 2 x UP aerosols in the coour you want, put the details in the colour box. for a 6>18 month protection using aerosols typically you would want 6>10 aerosols.
>
I want maximum protection, minimum effort
So we would suggest any colour coding is done with UP aerosols. typicall 1/2 a can per wheel arch, and 4 for an underbody. THis is a "wash" colour that assists the existing colour, and improves the look whislt rustproofing. to then add additional protection simply spray UP onto the underbody, including over the existing colour coded sections, with a HVLP gun. 2.0mm or larger tip. no thinning required. done correctly you can see 3>5 years in the lower traffic areas such as floor pan, and easy to topup later
I want to protect my defender 110 with UP, how is best?
For a "sound" underbody we would suggest two liters of UP applied through a 1.8>2.5mm hvlp no thinner required. cold or hot wash underneath prior, and get it so its not dripping wet. it can be damp, or dry to work. If you want to improve the look of the underbody thgen 4 UP aerosols in black will allow you to bring the colour back to the chassis, two colour coded aerosols will allow you do the same to the rear arches, and then apply your two liters of product oiver everything for longer term rustproofing.

Zero Prep Cavity wax aerosols are the bees knees!
Saturday, 16 July 2022  |

Definitely recommend grabbing a can of this when doing any work to your vehicles underbody. Here at Rusty Customs, I use this in every single job I do. Inner sills, chassis rails, subframes, crossmembers… you name it!

Easy

Bought 4 aerosol of cavity wax for chassis on a Hilux. Remains tacky but could well be the temp at moment. Good coverage. Cavity nozel coiled in cap was difficult to straighten so had to tape some wire on. Could be worth sending them uncoiled.

Easy application

After cleaning the inside rails of my 90, I carried full waxing in about 20 mins. So for about £30 and 20 mins work it’s about brained.

Versatile and easy to use
Monday, 20 April 2020  |

I used this with the PCL gun inside my Triumph Spitfire chassis. Exceptionally easy to use and you know you're getting good coverage with it because it's quite thin and will run into all the seams. I've found it handy for applying to things like bolts and adjustment shims while assembling the running gear as well for an added layer of protection from oxidization. It does dry to the touch too which is reassuring because that means it's got more chance of staying put. I love the stuff.

Genuinely awesome product that with the lance coats so well. We have used it as a garage in chassis, subframes, door skins. And the coverage is wicked. Once dry it is a really adhesive product that will not just run out.

Chassis and Bulkhead Treated
Tuesday, 7 January 2020  |

Purchased as a 1000ml shulzt can, I have used this inside a new galv chassis and bulk head on my Land Rover rebuild. Sooo good is the creep into the seams of this product is that having treat the bulkhead upside down it is still creeping out of the air vent seams since I have turned it back up the right way... it was treated a month ago! Really easy to apply, especially once warmed and using the FX11 gun. Will be using in the door frames too once they are repaired.

First time user of zero prep

Impressed with how easy this is to apply and how well it penetrates into seams but would be useful if it was available in a smaller quantity than 2.5 litres
Usual good service from Buzzweld with delivery next day

Hi Alan. Thanks for the feedback. We supply Zero prep in Aerosol, 1000ML schultz tins (that can be decanted to other guns if necessary), 2.5L tins, and 20L drums. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Application
Thursday, 19 April 2018  |

Used PCI gun to apply, used in cavities and above, around fuel tank, and on and around subframes application was pretty straight forward.

Purchase 2.5 litre tins, even using a funnel to fill gun pot managed to spill as the tin does not pour vey well, would be better in bottle or tub with screen top.

Used 2.5 lt doing a single good coat on an RX7.

Defender Doors
Sunday, 15 January 2017  |

I have used the zero prep on the bottom of both the doors on my 2004 Defender. I took the zero prep literally and sprayed it directly onto the rusted areas, applying several coats. It now appears to be much more soild and I no longer see a small pile of rust when I close the door. Fingers crossed it has done the trick.
